Conference Empowers College Women to Design Their Best Futures

San Jose, CA – The Charles W. Davidson College of Engineering at San Jose State University (SJSU) is hosting 450 college women at the 2019 Silicon Valley Women in Engineering (SV WiE) Conference on Saturday, March 16, 2019. The sold-out event takes place from 7:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Diaz Compean Student Union Ballroom.

SV WiE 2019 connects nearly 100 women technologists with 450 engineering and computer science students from 29 California colleges to explore emerging tech trends and career opportunities and design their best futures.

Now in its fifth year, the SV WiE Conference is recognized for informative and engaging programming that empowers women for STEM careers by advancing their technical knowledge, nurturing their career development, and providing a rare opportunity to network, face to face, with industry professionals.

“AI, automation, and climate change impacts are among the greatest challenges in human history. We know with certainty that engineering innovation is a critical success factor in our response to these challenges. SV WiE 2019 was developed with this in mind, to help college women to be intentional about participating in and leading tomorrow’s engineering innovations,” said Dr. Belle Wei, Carolyn Guidry Chair in Engineering Education and Innovative Learning at San Jose State University and SV WiE Conference Chair.

Keynote speakers include top executives from HP, Intel, and U.C. Berkeley. Presentations, roundtables, and breakout sessions explore emerging technologies and business skills for students planning tech careers. The event’s Title Sponsor is the Mark & Carolyn Guidry Women in Engineering Program Fund.

An Innovation Showcase and Networking Reception features exhibits and demonstrations of  next-generation tech solutions from diagnostics, 3D printing and drones, to artificial intelligence.  These will be hosted by representatives from Event Sponsors including: Agilent, Applied Materials, Cisco, Google, HP, IBM, Intel, KLA, NETGEAR, SEMI, Synopsys and TSMC.

Sheryl Ehrman, SJSU’s Engineering dean, said “This is our fifth year of bringing students together with outstanding women and men from all engineering disciplines in order to promote both industry knowledge and career wisdom. We have heard from past attendees that this conference changes lives.”
